Conservatory Sales Strong But Expectations Turn Down

Conservatory sales had a slight lull in July, but continue to hold their own compared to the same period last year, according to the latest monthly index sponsored by Synseal Extrusions Ltd and produced by Michael Rigby Associates. The index highlights strong sales but expectations were more subdued among conservatory fabricators and installers.

July is one of the big holiday months, yet just under four in ten respondents had better sales compared with June. More than six in ten improved sales on July last year.

Sales forecasts are less buoyant. Just under three in ten respondents expect to increase sales in August compared to July, with just under seven in ten predicting that their sales of conservatories will stabilise. Compared with August last year however, more than one in two are looking to improve sales.

Average values remain close to £6,300 excluding VAT, bases and dwarf walls.

An addition to the Quarterly Trend, the monthly tracker survey covers a representative sample of 50 conservatory fabricators who also install. Telephone interviews took place on the 31st July and 2nd August 2002 across a balanced spread of size of firm, geographical area and type of fabricator.
